Leanne's Story
With two children under three years old, Leanne was looking for a career that could work around her family. She was keen to have the flexibility to work her own hours and get paid well for a job well done.
Her experience up until that time included working with the prestige product range of Artistry skin care and cosmetics servicing VIP clients so studying professionally in the field of makeup and beauty was a natural progression.
Leanne studied a certificate in both Make up Artistry and Beauty Therapy. After which she established the mobile business which is now known as Beauty2u Mobile Makeup, Hair, and Beauty.
Her focus for that business was providing brides with a complete makeup, hair and beauty experience from the comfort of their home.
Leanne became a finalist in the prestigious ABIA awards (Annual Bridal Industry Awards) in 2001 and 2002.
Today Beauty2u continues to be a leader in the mobile beauty, hair and makeup industry. With the Bridal market still at its corner stone Beauty2u contracts work out to qualified graduates of Artistry of Make-up Academy.
The beginning of AMA
Leanne had a dream to establish her own make up and beauty school to train others with the same passion.
After completing a Certificate IV in workplace training, Leanne began training students to become make up Artists, subletting premises in Hurstville in 1999.
In May 2000 she registered Artistry of Make-up Academy as the official trading name for her business, and in April 2001 AMA became a registered training organisation with VETAB to offer nationally recognised qualifications.
Training services expanded to the meet the increasing needs of students into the areas of beauty, advanced/entertainment industry make-up and hair.
In September 2002 premises were acquired in Merrylands to service the western suburbs of Sydney.
Plans for the Future
Currently AMA offers a variety of part-time courses covering the make up and beauty industry in Hurstville and Merrylands, with plans to continually grow and improve. Planned expansions include premises in Newcastle as well as interstate.
Leanne's current role in the Academy is that of principal. The roles are wide and varied, overseeing training staff along with the day to day running of the business. “My greatest role in the business is meeting with prospective students” says Leanne “My biggest thrill is seeing women discover that they can take control of their life, working for themselves and making their own choices.”
“We provide a personalised service where we can package programs together to suit the individuals interest and budget.”
Today Leanne and her husband of 14 years Keith have 4 children: Keiralea 13, Mitchell 12, Brittany 8 and Chelsea 14 months.
